Join our single departure group tour on an extraordinary expedition to the remote Far North, where pristine nature awaits. Discover the captivating town of Alta, renowned as the gateway to the Northern Lights, and vibrant Levi, the hub of Finnish winter sports. This adventure blends the serenity of the Arctic wilderness with exhilarating winter activities.
Welcome to Alta, the city of the Northern Lights. Upon arrival, your tour guide will be waiting to take you to your cosy hotel right in the centre of Alta. The Canyon Hotel is a small boutique hotel and offers rooms in cosy Norwegian cabin style. After moving into your room, you will meet with your tour guide and the rest of the group to discuss the coming days. The rest of the day is free for you to make your first discoveries. Explore the pedestrian zone or treat yourself to a typical northern Norwegian-style dinner in the hotel’s own restaurant.
After a fortifying breakfast, your Arctic adventure begins. In addition to the Northern Lights, Alta is also known for its long tradition of dog sledding. The town is home to a number of mushers, all of whom compete in long-distance dog races and finish in the top places. Together we will visit one of these mushers in the morning and you will have the opportunity to learn more about this typical northern Norwegian tradition and also get on a sled yourself (excursion at an extra charge and not included in the price). If you prefer to spend the morning on your own, we recommend a visit to the Northern Lights Cathedral or the Alta Museum.
In the evening, we will meet after dinner and set off together in search of the Northern Lights. We will be taken slightly out of the centre to avoid the artificial lights. Once we arrive at Gargia Lodge, we are given an introduction to the art of snowmobiling and then set off into the mountains with our guide. This authentic experience should not be missed on any trip to the north and the landscape and tranquillity will take your breath away. With a bit of luck, the dancing northern lights will accompany us on this excursion.
In the morning, we make our way to Sorrisniva to visit the only ice hotel in Finnmark. Experience this special hotel made entirely of snow and ice and treat yourself to a break from everyday life and feel the peace and quiet that the igloo hotel offers you. See this “other world” for yourself. Get yourself a drink in the ice bar and feel the contrast between the cold glass of ice and the “warmth” that the drink gives you! Every year the hotel presents a new unique theme from the Arctic part of the world. The theme is represented by uniquely designed ice and snow sculptures by local ice and snow artists. The afternoon can again be freely organized by you.
Today we leave Norway and make our way to Finland. During the 5-hour drive from Alta to Levi, we can marvel at the snow-covered landscapes and reflect on the days gone by. We arrive in Levi in the afternoon and check into our hotel, the Levi Hotel & Spa. Levi is one of the most famous ski resorts in Finland and offers ski slopes and cross-country ski trails for every taste. In the evening, familiarise yourself with the surroundings, pay a visit to the spa or try some local specialities.
Today is at your leisure. You can spend it entirely on the ski slopes, relax in the hotel and spa or simply discover Levi. In the evening, we set off together to a wilderness camp and once again hope to be able to watch the Northern Lights dance. Together with our guide, we sit around the campfire, listen to exciting stories, have a hot drink and wait for the spectacle to begin.
If you wish, you can spend the whole day on the Levi slopes again. Everyone else has the opportunity to take part in a reindeer sleigh ride and visit a reindeer farm. Reindeer are firmly anchored in the Sami culture and on this excursion we learn more about the Sami way of life and reindeer herding. In addition to the opportunity to feed the reindeer, we also take part in a short sleigh ride on a reindeer sleigh (excursion at an extra charge and not included in the price).
An eventful journey to the Arctic world comes to an end. With many impressions in our luggage, we make our way to Kittilä airport and start our journey home.
Do not hesitate to give us a call. We are an expert team and we would love to talk with you.
If you’re looking for the most unique and memorable holiday and would like to speak to someone who has lived it, then I’d love to hear from you.
