Itinerary

Arrival in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Stockholm is built on fourteen islands and you are never far from water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24 000 islands is waiting to be explored. Stockholm city has an abundance of charm, history and tradition. This urban and trendy city will impress you with its interesting museums and castles. The city keeps its warm atmosphere apparent in the old town. Take time to explore the small and winding alley ways – the perfect area to find a suitable restaurant for the evening.

After breakfast departure for Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city and which has always been the natural gateway to the West. Located by the coast Gothenburg is a city characterized by international style, local creativity and a natural, relaxed charm. It has the pulse of a big city, cultural experiences, beautiful archipelago and shopping, all within comfortable walking distance.

Breakfast at your hotel. Make your way to the train station where you will depart towards Malmö, Sweden’s third largest city seen to population. In 2005 the skyline changed with the completion of skyscraper Turning Torso. For all the expansion, Malmö is a small, friendly city with a good choice of cultural attractions, including the new Moderna Museet Malmö. Look out for Malmö’s many quality restaurants and bistros and great cafés. And the shopping isn’t bad either, especially if you’re looking for Swedish design-ware and hip, new Swedish fashion labels.

After breakfast continue on by train to the historic town of Kalmar, one of Sweden’s oldest cities. History is waiting around each corner. We recommend a walk down the cobbled streets in the Old Town and a visit to Kalmar Castle, which has a history dating back 800 years. Today the castle is a living renaissance palace with room for both banquets and conferences.

After breakfast at your hotel, day at leisure. Suggest a visit to Öland Island, the smallest province in Sweden and the Swedes’ favourite summer holiday destination. The island has 400 windmills, 34 churches, 16 ancient fortifications, 34 orchid species, the highest lighthouse in Sweden, the largest windmill in Scandinavia, one of Europe’s longest bridges and the largest castle ruin in northern Europe, the Alvaret – a bare limestone bio-type not found anywhere else in the world.

After breakfast, continue your train journey to Linköping, Sweden’s fifth largest city. When approaching the city you’ll see the tower of the Cathedral rise above the plain from miles away. The Cathedral’s one of the finest buildings in Scandinavia and Sweden’s best preserved medieval cathedral. Just north of the city you’ll find the Berg Locks with more than 7 levels and a height difference of 18 meters.

After breakfast head back to Stockholm. Remainder of the day is yours to continue exploring Stockholm. Our recommended top ten include the following: Gamla Stan – The Old Town, Vasamuseét – The Vasa Museum, Skansen Open Air Museum, Kungliga Slottet – The Royal Palace, Stadshuset – The City Hall, Drottningholms Slott – The Drottningholm Palace, Östermalmshallen – The Östermalm Food Court, Millesgården – Art Museum, Moderna Museét – Museum of Modern Art and Kungsträdgården – City Park. Enjoy!

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Stockholm according to your own itinerary.
